Francisco Rodríguez-Henríquez

Biography

I received my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oregon State University in 2000.

From 2000 to 2002 I worked as a security architect with technology companies in Germany and the United States. In 2002 I joined CINVESTAV in Mexico City, where I was a professor until 2022. In 2006 I was one of the eleven professors who submitted the proposal establishing its independent Computer Science Department, where our cryptology effort developed into a sustained research school in public-key cryptographic engineering.

Since 2021, I have been Technical Director at the Cryptography Research Center of the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

My research interests lie in applied cryptography and computer arithmetic, with particular emphasis on efficient implementations of elliptic-curve-, pairing-, and isogeny-based cryptography, post-quantum cryptography, and the interaction between cryptographic algorithms and real systems.

I am a co-founder of LATINCRYPT and ASCrypto and co-author of the Springer monograph Cryptographic Algorithms on Reconfigurable Hardware. My co-authored work has received Best Paper Awards at CHES 2009, CHES 2013, and EUROCRYPT 2025, as well as runner-up distinctions at CHES 2016 and ASIACRYPT 2022. I also participated in the 2016 characteristic-3 discrete-log record computation.
